The birthplace of the great Bulgarian rebel - the legendary voivoda Hadzhi Dimitar (revolutionary leader) is located in the Klutsohor neighborhood on Asenova Street. Visitors can explore the small, single-story, asymmetrical house featuring a wooden veranda and the distinctive architectural elements of the Early Bulgarian Revival. One can also visit his father’s inn, including the adjoining outbuildings and the rooms where guests once stayed in pre-liberation Sliven.

On the second floor of the museum complex, there is an extensive exhibition dedicated to Hadzhi Dimitar and his comrade Stefan Karadzha. The displays include firearms and bladed weapons, as well as photographs and documents that tell the story of their heroic 1868 campaign with their revolutionary detachment.

The museum collection has welcomed visitors since 1935, when the iconic monument of the revolutionary leader was officially unveiled in Sliven. Over the years, the exhibition has been continually updated and expanded, with the latest artifact-and-document display opening in April 2024.

The Hadzhi Dimitar House Museum is featured as number 54 in the “Discover Bulgaria – 100 National Tourist Sites” program, the country’s most popular public initiative, established in 1966 by the Bulgarian Tourist Union.
