The chronological dimensions of the issue suggest the study of a long, centuries-long period of the historical development of the city of Sliven and the region under foreign political and religious rule. Of special scientific interest are the 18th-19th centuries, since at that time Sliven was one of the largest revival centers - not only in terms of economic and political potential, but also with the moral constructs of its civil society. The object of study is the multidirectional and sustainable trends in the development of crafts, trade, educational and church movements and the cultural contacts arising from them; the beginning and evolution of political doctrines for national liberation. The department has valuable collections of manuscripts, documents, photographs, old printed books, Renaissance weapons /collection of firearms and cold weapons/, etc. Exhibits from the collection are arranged in the two house museums related to the aforementioned periods – “Hadzhi Dimitar” House Museum and “Dobri Chintulov” House Museum. In the process of scientific research, work is carried out in central and personal archives; expeditions are systematically conducted on thematic studies related to our cultural and historical heritage. The Department of History of Bulgaria 15th-19th Century has one curator who specializes in the Bulgarian Revival field.
